Lemmings in your web browser

July 13, 2006

Somehow I missed the original Lemmings™ phenomenon back when it first came out in 1991. Probably because I didn’t have an Amiga. Maybe because I knew that lemmings don’t naturally commit mass suicide. (I was into Tetris anyway.)

But, I’d heard about it, especially as it is one of the most ported games of all time. Now, someone has painstakingly ported the game to JavaScript. DHTML Lemmings is a faithful recreation of the original game. All you need is a modern web browser and a decent CPU and you can enjoy the Lemmings in all their suicidal glory.

Frankly, it’s a good thing I missed it the first time around. This game is addictive. The last thing I need is another time-sink, especially at work.

There is an extensive help menu, and the source code is available for download to play offline.

  1. Al – do you have the right url for the app? I’m getting a “You don’t have permission to access /scripts/lemmings/index.html on this server.” trying to access it. FYI – i did find a flash version of the game here: http://www.fetchfido.co.uk/games/lemmings/lemmings.htm

  2. I’m quite sure of that URL. (Search in Google for “DHTML Lemmings”.) The whole site looks hosed.

It looks like the author is in a copyright argument. See: http://www.xs4all.nl/~crisp/lemmings/lemmings.html

  3. OOOOOOOOOOO TIS UP
